The 2008 Avalon features a dual-stage driver and front passenger airbag with the Advanced Airbag System (SRS), front seat-mounted side airbags (SRS), roll-sensing front and rear head/side curtain airbags (SRS) and an additional driver's knee airbag (SRS) as standard equipment on all models. After all, you can't be too overprotective.
New exterior styling cues include a sleek, low profile, longer wheelbase, and a dynamic new grille with horizontal chrome bars. Fog lamps are housed in a new lower intake valence, and large tail lamps framing a sculptured trunk leave a lasting impression.
Under the hood, Avalon delivers the most powerful V6 in a North American Toyota -- designed to increase torque, improve fuel economy, and lower emissions. This 3.5-litre engine boasts 280 horsepower and features a new 5-speed Super ECT (electronically-controlled) automatic transmission for precise and seamless shifting.
Offered in two superbly-equipped models -- the sporty Touring and the luxury-packed XL -- the 2008 Avalon brings style and substance together with a strengthened body structure designed to meet side impact standards that take into account higher-riding vehicles such as SUVs.
Other standard safety features include redesigned standard front-seat-mounted side airbags, front and rear side-curtain airbags, and a driver's knee airbag. The Avalon comes with standard anti-lock brake system (ABS) and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), while the available Brake Assist (BA) system on the XLS makes it even easier to activate the ABS.
Luxury and comfort features include: automatic dual-zone climate control, premium leather seat surfaces, power-adjustable driver and front passenger seats, steering wheel mounted audio controls, leather wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, AM/FM/CD audio system with in-dash 6-disc changer and 9 speakers, and power moonroof with sunshade.
A DVD-based navigation system with voice recognition is offered as part of the "C" option package for the XLS. Both driver and front passenger can plot a course with the navigation system using an eight-way switch and scroll lever.
