Introduced in 2015, Toyota’s Hybrid RAV4 didn’t garner all the attention that some auto enthusiasts expected, but that doesn’t mean that this year’s latest model isn’t turning some heads. Toyota made a few changes to this year’s hybrid RAV4 model, improving a number of things. In addition to minor tweaks to boost performance in the car’s cooling system, they also included transaxle mounts for its electric motors.
The new RAV Hybrid runs on a 2.5-liter, 4-cylinder engine that can certainly pack a punch, producing 176 horsepower and 163 pounds of torque. But, of course, since it’s a hybrid, that engine is also coupled with an electric motor designed to provide 118 horsepower and 150 pounds of torque. Add these together and the numbers are certainly impressive when compared to most hybrid models.
In a recent engine test, MotorTrend found that the speed and response of the new RAV4 Hybrid went up compared to previous models, clocking in at an impressive 0 to 60 mph in only 7.5 seconds. Not bad for a hybrid. It also needed only 15.6 seconds to complete a quarter mile, traveling at 90.4 mph.
One area where the new 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid truly shines is fuel economy. Compared to last year’s model, it gets much better mileage. According to Toyota, the new RAV4 Hybrid gets an average of 41/37 miles-per-gallon (mpg) in the city or on the highway. This is quite a step up from the 2018 model, which only offered 34/30 mpg. It also performs much better than competitor models, like the 2019 Nissan Rogue, which only delivers 31/34 mpg.
